An Introduction
Hello, my name is Niall Horn. I'm from North Yorkshire, England in the United Kingdom.
If you know me, it's probably through my work in the Visual Effects industry (VFX) on various films and TV shows, later moving into Deep-Tech R&D. I have a background in Computer Graphics/Simulation, Machine Learning and XR. While my career was/is my life; it's also just been the visible interface defining it so far.
What's mostly invisible, until now, is the reality of living with a complex set of medical conditions. I have a genetic condition, 47,XYY (Jacobs Syndrome), which lays the substrate for multiple conditions that make my life exceptionally challenging. These include neurodevelopmental conditions: Autism (ASD), ADHD and Dyspraxia (DCD), alongside daily physical and mental health challenges from conditions like Treatment Resistant Depression and Anxiety Disorders as a product of comorbidity.
I want to (re)build my life, to be more than just an existence. I want to rebuild my career in tech, and integrate the knowledge and experiences I've faced into my life and the way I work, learn and educate.
Hence, Edge Case Existence is born.

Horn v Apple
In June 2024, I was due to start at Apple, working on Persona R&D for visionOS – photorealistic remote telepresence technology. I completed a rigorous 10-interview process with positive feedback throughout, reaching the final stage of recruitment. During this final stage, I disclosed certain details of my disabilities and requested reasonable adjustments. The role did not proceed.
Since August 2024, there have been ongoing legal proceedings in the UK Employment Tribunal for alleged disability discrimination and victimisation under the Equality Act 2010. Separately, I have filed an application in the High Court regarding alleged contempt of court. I did not take the decision to pursue legal proceedings lightly. I attempted to resolve matters through government-supported dispute resolution services and reached out to Apple's leadership. When these efforts did not result in constructive engagement, formal proceedings became necessary.
